Hand-Foot System: Change a #9160 Ballast
Tools required
- Phillips-head Screwdriver
- Pliers
Procedure
IMPORTANT: Always Disconnect Power from the System when Servicing.
- To change a ballast, first determine which lamp number is defective. There is one ballast per lamp. Seven on the bottom bank and five on the top bank. The #1 lamp is the bottom front lamp and the last lamp on the bottom is #7. The top back lamp is #8 and the front top lamp is #12.
- 3. Turn the unit on either side so that the bottom of the unit is exposed. The ballast plate is located in the bottom part of the unit.
- Take out the screws holding the black end cap onto the unit. The plastic cover will slide out exposing the plate holding the ballasts. Determine which ballast you need to replace. For example:
- #1 lamp is front bottom
- #1 ballast is next to the relays
- #8 lamp is near top rear
- #8 ballast is eighth from relays
- To remove the ballast, unplug the orange connectors from both ends.
- Straighten the metal tab on the side that has two tabs using the pliers.
- Replace the defective ballast and bend the tab down.
- Apply power and test the system.
- Replace the plastic cover and the black end cap.
- Loosen the four screws on the fan grill.
- Remove ten parallel screws below fan and remove the piece of sheet metal.
- Now determine which ballast is defective.
- The top ballast is #1 and drives lamp #1.
- The bottom ballast is #24 and drives lamp #24.
- To remove the ballast first unplug the orange connectors on both sides of the ballast. Then straighten the tab on the side that has two tabs using pliers. Remove the defective ballast.
- Mount the new ballast. Replace the grill, screws and lamps.
- Apply power and test the system.
- Please return all defective ballasts to: Ultralite Enterprises, Inc., 390 Farmer Court, Lawrenceville, GA 30045
