Problem: Unit has lost power and controller is blank    OR

Unit has lost power and CPU light is on or blinking

Cause: Power outage or interruption

Solution: Kill power to unit by unplugging from wall or tripping the circuit breakers.  Older machines will have a reset inside the unit that will have to be pressed in order to restart the controller.  Newer units will come up with the MM DD YY HH MM prompt immediately. Reset the day and date.  If the controller does not come up immediately and there is no reset button to push it may be necessary to leave the unit without power for at least an hour in order for the battery back up to drain and then restore the power to the unit. Reset day and date.

Problem: Calibrate light/reference light blinking   OR

Lamps turn on when machine unlocked and "FUNC INT CALC" displayed

Cause: As the system ages, from use, the light output (flux) decreases.  The flux amount stored in the memory has to be updated.  A timer in the computer senses when to update and will turn the lamps on when it is time to reference.

Solution: Reference the controller (SELECT CODE 4).  If the unit turns on automatically when unlocked with user password it is already in SELECT CODE 4.  Allow flux/output to reach peak (usually about 6 minutes) then press enter.  The numbers on the display when you press enter is your new output and that should be recorded in your REFERENCE LOG.  If there is a B sensor on the unit the UVB lamps will now turn on and it will only take about 2 minutes for these lamps to peak.  Press enter and record that number.  If there is no B sensor on the unit Press the number ONE and enter.  There must be a value entered for UVB or the unit will turn on every time it is unlocked.

Problem: UVA times are radically changed from previous sessions

Cause:   Usually “Func Int. Cal” appeared on display prior to this session and operator did not allow unit to reach peak during flux reading.

Solution: Press SPACE LOCK and unlock with maintenance Password ULTRAMAIN - enter then press SELECT CODE 4 and enter and let the numbers peak as mentioned above.

Problem: System stops at calculated time rather than joules amount during dose treatments

Cause: Usually occurs when requesting small UVA dosage, such as 1.5 joules or less.  Since system takes about 6 minutes to reach peak flux, for short sessions the system never reached peak flux.  The calculated time is based on peak flux.

Solution 1:  Increase the time factor.  Time factor at installation was 1.6.  To change the time factor:  Press SPACE LOCK and unlock with ULTRAMAIN  and press SELECT CODE 6, enter. Display will read TIME FACTOR  type in new time factor (try 1.8,enter)  Record new time factor on your data sheet.  This should make your predicted times longer and give the short treatments ample time to deliver the dose.

Solution 2:  Add more time to predicted time.  When you enter the joules and it comes back with the predicted time and asks if that time is okay? Tell it no and put in a larger time.  It does not matter how much time you enter it will cut off at the amount of Joules you requested because you asked for your treatment in dose not time.

Problem: Will not accept password/says password is invalid

Cause: Someone has already entered something into the controller or you have had a power interruption.

Solution: Always make sure that the light in the CONTROL LOCKED  box is a solid red block.  If it is blinking you must press ENTER and let the controller give the message INVALID PASSWORD  and then it will go back to CONTROL LOCKED.  DO NOT PRESS CLEAR!    It is possible that with a power outage or interruption the controller has forgotten the Password but in most cases it is an operator error.  The ULTRAMAIN code should always unlock the controller and you can use SELECT 65 to put your Password back into memory.

Problem: When should we change our lamps?

Solution: This is really a personal call with every user. The lamps are usually good for 300-400 hours of use but you will see your output/flux drop and the treatment times start to get longer. When the output drops below 12-15 MW C on UVA and below .500 on UVB we recommend that the lamps be changed. Your patients will be grateful and your treatment times will be kept at a minimum.
